opening / closing dates

Glacier National Park is located in Montana and has many beautiful things to see when visiting. However sometimes visiting national parks can be expensive. If you are anything like me, then you like to travel but in the cheapest way possible. But while still making the most of your adventure by seeing and doing a lot in the area. If that describes your travel desires then you are in the right place. Today I will be exploring the top three free things to do in Glacier National Park.

Number one on my list of free things to do in Glacier National Parks is hiking. Glacier has hundreds of trails with a variety of end destinations. Glacier has hikes to lakes, overnight hikes, and even short natural trails. They truly have something for everyone, not to mention the trails are free to go on, and hiking benefits both your physical and mental health. My only words of caution are many of the hikes do not have cell service so be familiar with the trail before you go!

Number two on the list is fishing. Assuming that you have a fishing pole and some bait this is a great option for yet another free activity in Glacier. You don’t need any fancy gear to go fishing and a cheap fishing pole only costs $10-$20 and will last you awhile. Glacier has a number of lakes to fish in with no permit required. You may even get a free dinner if you have success while fishing!

Number three on our list of fun and free activities is photography. I know what you’re thinking, photography is not free it requires expensive equipment that you may or may not have. But hear me out, we live in a digital age and almost everyone has a cell phone. You don’t need anything fancy to take some quality pictures. Use your phone camera to capture glaciers’ natural beauty. You can even add a twist and have a contest with some friends. Make a list of some things you might find in Glacier National Park and whoever gets the most pictures of the different items on the list wins!

Traveling doesn’t have to be expensive it can still be fun and meaningful if you use your resources wisely. Use things you already have and conduct research before you visit an area to find free things to do. If you are planning a trip to Glacier in the next couple of months and are looking for a cheap place to stay, check out Wander Camp, it is cheaper than a hotel and doesn’t require you to buy expensive camping gear. Wish you safe and cheap travels!
