Introduction

One of the best parts of glamping is the clear skies. Because campsites are typically located away from large cities and there is less light pollution it is the perfect place to enjoy the phenomena of the solar system.

Each year there are different phenomena happening because of the cycle of the moon and sun. In 2024 there are some exciting shows to see, the first one happening on April 8, 2024. On April 8, 2024, there will be a Partial Solar Eclipse. The Partial Solar Eclipse will be visible in Northern Utah and a total solar eclipse will be visible in certain parts of the world. One of the best places to see the Partial eclipse in Utah is in Moab. The eclipse will be visible from 11:22 am -1:44 pm with its peak at 12:32 pm.

What is a partial solar eclipse?

A partial solar eclipse is a phenomenon that only occurs twice a year when the moon passes between the sun and the earth blocking out some of the sun’s rays for a short period of time. The sun will look like a crescent because of the moon passing in front of it. The sky will darken slightly because some of the sun’s rays are blocked by the moon but after the eclipse has passed the sun will return again.

How to prepare for an eclipse

Solar eclipse are beautiful and fun to watch, however, there are some precautions that must be taken in order to enjoy the eclipse safely. The first precaution is to wear eye protection. The sun is bright and it will hurt your eyes if you look at it for long periods of time. Make sure to wear eye protection when viewing the eclipse. Eclipse glasses are the best because the lenses block out more rays than normal sunglasses.

The second precaution is to not take pictures of the Solar Eclipse on your smartphone or even on a regular camera. It can be tempting to snap a shot of this beautiful occurence but beware that taking pictures of the sun can actually damage your camera sensors. The best way to capture this phenomenon is to be fully present, no cameras allowed, and take mental snapshots in order to preserve your camera lenses.
