Introduction:

Planning a wedding is exciting but it can also be stressful and overwhelming, especially when it is your first time planning one. There are so many details you have to coordinate it can take a lot of work to know where to start. In my opinion, finding the perfect venue is a great place to start.

Step One:

The first thing to do when planning a wedding is to reserve a venue. Getting the venue is important because they book months in advance, as soon as you have a date you should start looking at venue availability. Finding the perfect venue can be hard, lots of them need to be bigger or match the aesthetic of the wedding. Before you go venue hunting be sure you know what you are looking for.

Step Two:

The second thing you need to decide is if you want an indoor or an outdoor wedding. Most venues accommodate only one of them. Indoor weddings are nice because you don’t have to worry about the weather unexpectedly changing or unexpected wind. An outdoor wedding venue can be beautiful for pictures and can often accommodate more people. However, before you decide to have an outdoor wedding be sure to check the weather on the date of your wedding to make sure that an outdoor wedding is possible if that is what you want.

Step Three:

The third step is determine a rough guest count for your wedding. Most venues have a maximum capacity and you don’t want to waste your time looking at venues that won’t accommodate all of your guests. So make a list of the guests you want to invite, it is safe to assume not everyone you invite will come but you should still overestimate your guest count to accommodate for unexpected guests.

Step Four:

The fourth step to picking a venue is to check the availability of the venue before you go to visit them. If the venue is available on your wedding date then make an appointment to visit the venue. Sometimes online pictures can be misleading and make a venue look bigger than it is, so a trip out there is necessary.

Step Five:

The fifth step is to tour the venues you are interested in. When you visit a venue you are going to want to take notes on a couple of things: check out the layout so you know how you want to set up tables and such on the day of; check to see if is there access to power, this could be important for microphones, lights or speakers; ask if they provide seating or tables for your guests.

Step Six:

The final step is to weigh the pros and cons of each of the venues you visit. Does the venue fit the aesthetic of your wedding? Will it accommodate enough guests? Is it everything you hoped for? If the venue checks all your boxes then congratulations you found your venue!
