Looking for a more sustainable way to vacation? We have the perfect fit for you! Glamping offers you the comfort of a nice getaway but also allows you to have peace of mind about the environment. Trends in the world today are ever increasing to being more environmentally conscious and sustainable for future generations. Everything from our straws being reusable, to cloth grocery bags and even electric cars. There are so many other ways we can be environmentally conscious, so why shouldn’t we include traveling?

Being green is a way to keep nature in its purest form. So when travelling to see these beautiful places we need to preserve and keep these places pristine and in their natural state.

How does Glamping Compare to A Traditional Hotel?

Every year hotels create 1.9 billion pounds of waste, 84.7 billion kwh is used for electricity, 219 billion gallons of water is consumed, and 60 million tons of CO2 are emitted. It is hard to put into perspective what this looks like for the environment, but if hotels went more green, this would substantially help the environment. Now glamping can’t replace every hotel in every location, but it is an option for many accommodations in many areas. For more information, check out this graphic!

Solar

Each tent at Wander Camp has solar powered lanterns, solar powered fans, and solar powered USB outlets. This greatly helps reduce the need for electricity. And it helps you be disconnected from the digital world and connected to the natural world which is always needed. It’s also a great way to be more connected with whoever you glamp with!

Water

Our camps have shared bathrooms which helps reduce the amount of water that is used each year through our glamping hotel.

Waste

Waste is reduced by glamping because you pack in what you pack out. There are some options for food, but we don’t have a lot so there is a lot less food waste. In general, glamping is very simple yet cozy which makes it less wasteful in many ways.

Emissions

One of the most obvious ways glamping helps the environment is through emissions. First, you don’t always have to take a flight to your destination and car traveling is also reduced. Adventuring is very close by so you can easily walk or bike to your adventure instead of driving! And not to mention, the activities you do while you are glamping are mostly environmentally friendly like hiking, kayaking, swimming, and star-gazing.

Land

Hotels generally sit on a large piece of land and change the integrity of the land. On the other hand, glamping takes up a small piece of land and generally doesn’t change the integrity of the land. Since the tents are mobile, the ground underneath usually stays in its original state. The tents themselves also don’t put toxic or harmful elements back into the habitat they are by. We are very passionate about National Parks and preserving that land, that is why we have many locations near National Parks.

Sustaining wildlife is also another great benefit of glamping. When hotels are built or any development really, the natural environment is at stake. Wildlife’s habitat is changed and is essentially taken away from them. While glamping, you are likely to see a lot more wildlife than you would otherwise because you aren’t taking away their natural habitat and they can continue to stay there. Just see this clip taken of bears near a campsite!

Leave No Trace

While I was growing up, my family took road trips to Yellowstone National Park almost every year. I remember seeing the vibrant color of the hot springs, all the roaming buffalo, and the active geysers and mud pots. As I grew older, something changed about this once magical place. Due to human action, many of the beautiful natural things about Yellowstone were changing. The hot springs started to lose their color and some have even lost all their color. There is less wildlife seen in the park. And the geysers and mud pots seem to be less active. All of these occurrences could have many factors that affected them, but actions of humans have greatly impacted it, and in a negative way.

The trend, “leave no trace” is very popular, especially in preserving our National Parks. Glamping has helped many people with their desire to leave no trace by giving them a sustainable way to vacation. Leaving no trace starts with you! Remember to pack in what you pack out to reduce harmful waste. Try to stay on trails and marked areas to preserve the natural land and habitat. Stay in a canvas tent through Wander Camp to reduce more waste and to keep the integrity of the land. There are many other measures you can take to leave no trace, but as you do so, future generations will thank you. The natural environment is bound to change due to natural processes, but we can  do our part in not speeding up the process of change.
