Zion is the third most visited national park. Wander Camp‘s Zion location is less than an hour away from Zion National Park. This guide will expand on some of the many exciting activities Zion National Park has to offer. These sights and activities include visiting Angels Landing, hiking the Narrows, visiting Emerald Pools, and hiking the Subway.
Angels Landing
The Angels Landing trail is a little over an hour away from Wander Camp’s Zion location and around a 17 minute drive from Zion National Park. Angels Landing is one of the most popular destinations in Zion National Park. Hiking Angels Landing is said to take around 4 hours. The trail is 5.4 miles in length. The hike itself is on the more difficult side. Hikers also have to apply for a hiking permit before they can hike Angels Landing to both keep visitors safe and decrease the amount of visitors at one time.
The Narrows
This hike is a 25 minute drive from Zion National Park and around a 1 hour and 15 minute drive from Wander Camp’s Zion location. Hiking The Narrows involves getting your feet wet, so make sure you pack the proper hiking gear for this hike. There are two options visitors can choose to hike: first, the Bottom-Up Hike and, second, a 16-mile hike from Chamberlain’s Ranch. The Bottom-Up Hike does not require visitors to have a permit, but the hike from Chamberlain’s Ranch does require one. Additionally, when hiking The Narrows you should expect the water levels to be around knee level for some portions of the hike. Although this hike can be a challenge, it is worth every second. Also, for those looking for content ideas, The Narrows would provide a great photo op.
Emerald Pools
There are three different trails for hiking to the Emerald Pools. The lower trail, the middle trail, and the upper pool. The lower trail is only a 1.2 mile hike, while the middle trail is 2 miles and the upper pool trail is a 3 mile hike. You can choose your hike depending on how far you want to walk and how much of the pools you want to see. If you are traveling with young children and/or strollers, it is recommended that you hike the lower trail.
The Subway
Just like Angels Landing, visitors are required to apply for a permit to hike The Subway. Visitors are required that to apply for the permit 2 months before you plan to visit Zion National Park. There are no provided tours that can be purchased by visitors, in fact tour guides are not permitted in this area of the park. It is recommended that you travel with someone who has hiked The Subway before. Both of the trails for The Subway, Bottom-Up and Top-Down, are labeled as very strenuous. It is important that visitors prepare ahead of time by packing the right clothing and footwear.
