The olympic peninsula loop is the perfect trail to follow that will allow you to experience all the diversity that Olympic park has to offer. If you want to add a bit of luxury into your trip, book a stay with Wander Camp so that you can stay right in Olympic park.

Starting location: Seattle

Although you can start from anywhere for this loop around Olympic park, Seattle is a wonderful place to gear up, purchase any last minute items, and maybe take a stroll through Pikes place market. From here, you’ll hop on the Bainbridge island ferry. What’s great about the ferries coming out of the Seattle port is that they are massive. You can park your car on the boat then walk on up to sit in the main cabin and enjoy the views from the surrounding windows.

(Tip: If you would rather save money and not spend the $30+ to take the ferry, you can drive through Tacoma instead. This will take longer, but will get you there either way.)

Stop #1 Bainbridge

Once you’re on Bainbridge island, your road trip adventure begins! Stroll around mainstreet or take a stop at the Bainbridge Museum of Art as you head up towards the Agate Passage Bridge. After you’ve crossed that bridge, take a minute to stop on the beach and take in the view then you can head on over towards Port Townsend. On your drive there, you’ll pass by the ludlow falls which can be a great walk to stretch out your legs after being cramped in the car. The falls are beautifully green and sure not to disappoint!

Stop #2 Port Townsend

Port Townsend is a charming town by the sea. Think lighthouses and sailboats in the dreamy pacific. Come and spend time on the beach or go lighthouse hunting along the coast. There are also a few lovely parks with picnic areas and trails. If you have more time, go check out Alexander’s castle. This castle was built in the 19th century and has been turned into a hotel accommodation. If you are looking to spend the night in Port Townsend, this could be a unique place to stay.

Stop #3 Lake Crescent

Lake Crescent is a beautiful area for trout fishing, camping and picnicking in Olympic national Park. If you are looking for some quiet time in nature, this area will be sure to provide you with some solitude. The lake has crystal clear blue waters and is surrounded by moss covered trees. It is beautiful and

Tip: For a slight detour, stop at the sol duc trailhead on your way to Neah Bay for some beautiful waterfall views.

Stop #4 Neah Bay

Shipwreck point is a great place to collect some seashells for a free souvenir if you like! Its also just a beautiful place to explore and enjoy the coastline. Cape flattery lighthouse is also a beautiful spot to enjoy the ocean view. On your way down from Neah bay, take a moment to stop at yet another beautiful beach: Shi Shi beach if you have time.

Stop # 5 Rialto Beach

Rialto beach is definitely a worthwhile stop. One of the highlights of Rialto Beach is the Hole in the Wall, a natural arch that has been carved out of the rock by the waves. During low tide, take a hike to explore around it and see beautiful creatures in the tide pools. Visitors to Rialto Beach can also enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, beachcombing, wildlife watching, and surfing (for experienced surfers only). The beach is also a popular spot for photography, with plenty of opportunities to capture the beauty of the Pacific Northwest coast.

Overall, Rialto Beach is a must-see destination for anyone visiting the Olympic Peninsula. Whether you’re looking to relax on the beach, explore the natural wonders of the area, or simply take in the breathtaking scenery, Rialto Beach is an unforgettable experience.

Stop #6 Hoh Rain Forest

This is a great spot to start a hike out of! Having a chance to explore a rainforest in North America is a rare opportunity, so we would highly recommend this stop! Whether you’re going for a small stroll or hoping to make the trek to the Hoh Glacier (the largest glacier in the lower 48 states) this stop will be well-worth your time.

Stop #7 Ruby Beach

This beach is one of a kind. It hosts trails, campsites and a lodge. The best part: watching the sunset with the beautiful foreground of the rugged cliffs and the pines that cover them. Want to have some up-close experiences with wildlife? Check out the tide pools for a fun little adventure.

Stop #8 Quinault Rain Forest

Stop here for some easy nature hiking trails that have amazing views of the rainforest. It’s a good alternative to the Hoh rain forest, however, you won’t have the chance to take some more difficult hikes if that’s what you’re looking for. This rainforest will have mostly easy nature walks.

Stop #9 Aberdeen

International mermaid museum?! Count me in! This is a great small city to recharge in and to check out some antique attractions. The Polson museum is another fun option to learn a bit of history during your afternoon in Aberdeen.

Stop #10 Capitol State forest

This is a great stop for camping and seeing your last few waterfalls before you head back to the city. Search the area for some hikes with amazing views and you will not be disappointed. Also, if you’re into horse-riding and offroading, this is the place to go!

After this road trip, you should have memories to talk about for years to come all set in the beautiful backdrop of Olympic National Park. With its range of landscapes, you should also have some phenomenal photos to remind you of the fun time you had. We hope to see you at Wander Camp while you’re driving along this beautiful loop!
