Zion National Park is the most iconic US travel destination! Between the huge red cliffs, gorgeous sunrises and sunsets, and countless hikes and activities, it is a trip worth taking. Here is everything you need to know to plan your trip to Zion this summer. Get excited!

Here we will go over animals to look for, where to stay, food preparation, packing list, best hikes, and more. We are here to help as you plan the best part of your summer!

Animals To Look For

Zion is home to over 60 species of mammals. On your drive into the park, look around at the groups of white-tailed deer on every side. The most common animal you will see is the Desert Bighorn Sheep. You will find them standing high up on the red rocks all over Zion. (On my most recent trip, I saw tons of them!) On your hikes, you may spot a Common Chuckwalla- a type of large lizard that grows up to 8 inches. Watch out for mountain lions near the national park and be sure to notify a park ranger if you see one. You may even see a Desert Tortoise if you’re lucky.

Where to Stay

If you’re wondering where to stay on your trip to Zion National Park, look no further! There are plenty of cabins and camping grounds available. If you’re thinking the cabins are too expensive and camping is too uncomfortable, come glamp with us at Wander Camp Zion! Enjoy a large affordable tent with clean and comfortable king-sized beds just 20 minutes outside of the national park entrance.

Food

If you’re going in a large group, consider buying food together so you can make more meals for everyone and split the price. Try some easy camping meal ideas, like dutch oven chili or hot dogs over the fire. And of course, don’t forget to roast marshmallows over the fire. If you’re feeling adventurous, try roasting starburst too- it’s better than you’d think. Be sure to lock up your food in a car or kitchen somewhere to be sure no animals will get to it.

Weather

The most common time to visit Zion is between the months of April and October. This has a lot to do with the weather. The weather is generally pretty warm during these months. It starts reaching the 70s in May and keeps increasing until mid-July when it reaches the 90s. Be sure to bring sunglasses and a warm sweatshirt because you never know for sure what the weather will do.

Best Hikes

Learn more about the best hikes in the area! Here are some of our favorites:

On my most recent trip to Zion, I hiked Canyon Overlook and Emerald Pool Trail- both very easy and great for a big group. If you are looking for a more challenging hike, gear up for Angel’s Landing– a more treacherous hike with amazing views.

After these strenuous hikes, it will be time to settle down and relax at a scenic campsite. Come to Wander Camp Zion to enjoy fantastic amenities without sacrificing the experience of sleeping under the stars and enjoying nature to the fullest. Have an amazing trip!
